INCREASE IN DIABETES & HYPERTENSIVE PATIENCE ATTRIBUTED TO IGNORANCE

Ignorance among people on health management issues has been identified as a major factor that has led to the rise of Hypertension & Diabetes particularly at the grassroots.


Lagos State Vice Chairman, Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria IMAN, Doctor Mustapha Alimi stated this at the closing of a 2-day free Health Mission organised by Odogunyan Muslim Community, in Odogunyan, Ikorodu.



Doctor Alimi who led a Team of ten Consultants and other medical personnel said government at all levels should intensify effort on Public Health Education to promote preventive heath care which he said would help reduce numerous health problems.



The Medical doctor highlighted Malaria, Diabetes &  Hypertension among three silent killers diseases discovered to be predominant among people that were screened.




Also speaking on the occasion, the Medical Officer of Health, MOH, Ikorodu Local Council Development Area, Doctor Saheed Tajudeen disclosed that some residents of Odogunyan town who are Diabetes patients are neither aware of their health status nor taking proactive measures to managing d killer diseases.



In a Speech, the Secretary of Odogunyan Muslim Community, Mr Abdulwab Handu as explained that the 2-day event was designed to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad-peace b upon him.

We gathered that about 300 children were dewormed  while 400 adults were screened for diabetes,  High Blood Pressure also get their Eyes tested  as the event climax with distribution of free eye glasses and other drugs. 




We hope more of this free Health Mission would be organised by well meaning Nigerians, Corporate organisations and Community based Organizations like Odogunyan Muslim Community for the sake of  the poor masses.
