IBILE: A DYING CONCEPT

IBILE: A DYING CONCEPT
The historical antecedent of the 6th most populous City in the World(as at 2005) on the national political map of Nigeria triggered and propelled this initiative with a view to promoting communities and the people of Lagos State where I originated.

IBILE is a concept that refers to the traditional administrative Zones otherwise known as Divisions in Lagos State.  It is an acronym that denotes each Division of the State vis-a-vis:
I-  Ikorodu Division
B- Badagry Division
I-  Ikeja Division
L- Lagos Island Division
E- Epe Division.

The formal creation of Lagos State on May 27, 1967 by the State creation and transitional provision decree No. 74 of 1967 which structure Nigerian's federation into 12 States was an attestation to the fact Lagos remains the heartbeat and economic nerve of the geographical expression called Nigeria.

Chief S.L Edu on page 149 of his biography "Journey From Epe" testified to the existence of d Divisions when he affirmed that Governor Mobolaji Johnson ensured that the composition of his Commissioners reflected the 5 administrative Zones into which Lagos State is traditionally divided by appointing S.L. Edu(Epe Division), Adeniran Ogunsanya(Ikorodu Division), S.B. Hundeyin(Badagry Division), Babatunde Williams(Ikeja Divisions), and I.S Adewale(Lagos Division).

Subsequent Administrators of the State followed this pattern up to and including the tenure of the First Executive Governor of Lagos State Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Besides, there numerous events and activities as well as challenges experience on a daily basis by the people of Lagos State many of which did not enjoy adequate media publicity. This, I intend to bring to you.
